  CHESHUNT FC 3 - 1 STANSTED FC U16's

Eastern Junior Alliance, Herts Division

Well done today lads, an excellent performance and a result that bears no reflection on the game whatsoever.

A very well contested first-half saw us have the upper hand and creating numerous chances in front of goal. Despite hitting the bar and going close, we turned round 0-0 at half-time. On another day we would have been 3 up!

The second-half started with us again applying pressure and we deservedly went into the lead 5 mins after the re-start when Matty Garrity finished off some great work by skipper Terry Spillane to put us 1-0 up. Cheshunt's equaliser came mid-way through the half when a mixture of sloppy defending and poor goalkeeping saw us push the ball into our own net to level the game at 1-1.

Just as the game looked like it would finish 1-1, Conor tugged his hamstring and we had to replace him with Josh in goal for the final minutes of the game.

With 1 minute left on the clock the score was 1-1, at full-time we had lost 3-1!!

I put no responsibility for the goals on Josh's shoulders whatsoever, Josh had a great game at centre-half and done us a favour, well done Josh.

We stuck to our game plan superbly today lads and really should have won this game. A draw was just about acceptable, but the defeat no way reflected our performance. We need to hold our heads high, football can be a very harsh game and today was one of those days!

It is great to win football matches but it is important to lose with dignity, today our reaction was fantastic.

We'll be back next week stronger for the experience, see you tomorrow lads.
