Essex Senior League champions
Stansted have confirmed signings made by boss Terry
Spillane.
The ex-Chelsea youth team player has now signed
fourteen of his 2010/11 squad ahead of the first
pre-season friendly at Langford on Saturday.
Most recent additions made by Spillane, whose own
stock in the game is constantly rising, are Dwight
Gayle, Andy Oxby, Tommy Spillane, Danny Hopkins, Craig
Wood and Luke Giddings.
In many of these individual cases the `big shilling`
has been offered from elsewhere but the players have
shown a remarkable show of loyalty.
Gayle is an experienced former Arsenal schoolboy who
made such an impact on the Essex Senior League scene
last term, finishing second in the league`s scoring
charts on twenty-seven goals.
He is a real hot property with his speed and all-round
attributes, and the Hargrave Park faithfull will be
delighted he has re-signed after playing such a big
part in last season`s first championship success.
Skipper Oxby (pictured) is a real quality midfield
lynchpin. The former Norwich City junior and Romford
player is a big, big plus for Spillane.
Oxby leads from the front, weighs in with important
goals and is most definitely a performer who is
comfortable on the big stage.
Tommy Spillane, arguably the best left-back in the ESL
and model of consistency, has also put pen-to-paper,
while Craig Wood will be a big presence.
He is available on a regular basis for next season
after his level of availability was limited last season
due to his involvement at Leeds University.
The manager said: “Having Craig back is like having a
new player join us. He is a combative midfield player
who makes things happen in our engine room.”
Completing of the latest batch of signings is Luke
Giddings and Danny Hopkins.
Giddings is a popular midfielder now back in
contention and hoping to lay the injury bogy that made
him miss the latter part of the previous term and much
of the title run-in.
Ex-Barking player Hopkins, himself an utillity player
of some pedigree, will look to play an increased part
in the new season`s proceedings after showing glimpses
of his quality towards the end of 2009/10.
