TOMMY PENFOLD - INJURY UPDATE
Thank you very much to everyone who has kindly
asked after Tommy.
As most of you are aware, Tommy finally got the sign-off from
the physio at the beginning of this month to commence
pre-season training. Tommy had been out for nearly 3 months
with medial & cruciate ligament damage to his left knee
following a tackle in an EJA league game playing for Stansted
FC U16's.
Following 2 weeks of pre-season training and feeling no
reaction to the knee, it came as a complete shock when Tommy's
knee 'popped' again on Thursday during a non-contact
warm-up.
Having been on crutches for 48 hours, Tommy tonight visited a
top private knee specialist for further assessment.
It is with great sadness that I now report that Tommy needs 2
knee operations and will be out of the game for a minimum of 18
months.
The first cartliage operation will take place next month the
day after we return from holiday. The second operation to
repair the cruciate knee ligament will take place in
December.
Tommy is obviously very disappointed and probably somewhat
shocked at the diagnosis. That said, we all now just how
competitive he is and he is absolutely determined to get
through this injury nightmare and get back to playing as
quickly as possible.
I know I speak for everyone at our club in wishing Tommy a very
speedy and successful recovery.
